MILAN, March 30 (Reuters) – Italy’s Fincantieri FCT.MI has suspended the head of its military division while it conducts an internal audit over alleged irregularities in a potential sale of military vessels to Colombia, the shipbuilder said on Wednesday.
Fincantieri chief executive Giuseppe Bono, will act as director general for the military division in place of Giuseppe Giordo, who has been running the business since November 2019, it said.
Giordo did not reply to Reuters’ request for comment.
Italian newspapers had indicated Giordo was among potential candidates to replace Bono, whose term ends in the coming weeks.
A shareholder meeting to be called between late April and May will decide the appointments of Fincantieri CEO and chairman, with Italy’s state lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) due to indicate its candidates in the coming days, two sources close to the matter told Reuters.
“Fincantieri wants to emphasise that in international commercial negotiations it has always dealt exclusively with the relevant institutions, both Italian and foreign,” the group said in a statement issued earlier this month over the Colombia case.
