Six passengers coming from Dubai were intercepted by the Customs Office on Saturday with international forex well worth Rs 1.04 crores. A single passenger amongst them was arrested.
The Customs Department reported in a release: “Primarily based on intelligence that currency was probably to be smuggled out of India by passengers certain for Dubai by Indigo flight 6E 65, air intelligence officers preserved a rigid vigil at departure terminal to intercept them. 6 passengers – Mansoor Ali Khan (27), Yakalik (68), Thameem Ansari (49), Mohamad Hussain (30), Yousuf (67) – who are all citizens of Chennai, and Abdul Rahman (38) of Pudur were intercepted.”
“After they had cleared immigration and were proceeding towards the protection hold spot. A lookup was carried out. On assessment of their backpacks, a lot of power banking companies have been identified hidden within. The power banking companies appeared to be heavy and were being broken by a hammer and international currency notes were recovered which were being concealed within,” Customs additional.
International forex was also recovered from the pockets of their backpacks. USD 74,000 in 100 denominations value Rs 53.5 lakhs, 1,50,000 Saudi Riyals in 500 denomination worthy of Rs 28.3 lakhs and 25000 Euros in the denomination of 200 really worth Rs 22.2 lakhs completely equivalent to Rs 1.04 crore have been recovered and seized under Customs Act study with Foreign Exchange Administration (Export and Import of Currency) Polices, 2015.
Thameem Ansari, whose unique seizure benefit crossed Rs 20 lakhs was arrested.
More investigation is less than progress.
